A chat with NAVET
Who is NAVET?
NAVET is a multidisciplinary design studio with offices in Stockholm and Milan, founded by Cecilia Wahlberg, Helena Svensson, Lina Huring, and Maria Johansson. Our work spans from creative direction to spatial design and objects, and sometimes in between.
What does inspire you?
We are inspired by art, and by visiting amazing places, some of our favorites include artist homes and house museums like the homes of Karin and Carl Larsson, The Necchi Sisters, Le Corbusier, Salvador Dalí or Claude Monet, but also less famous ones. Even visiting houses for sale is sometimes a great source of inspiration.
Where would you recommend me to go in Stockholm?
Depending on the season, but at the moment you could spend a day like this:Begin with coffee and cinnamon buns, and buy some craft cheese at Svedjan Bageri on the south side of the city. If you dare; take a sauna and an icy dip at Tantobastun during their public opening hours. Take the boat from Slussen to the tiny museum island of Skeppsholmen (Moderna Museet, ArkDes, Östasiatiska museet) and walk into town over the narrow bridge decorated with crowns). Pass by Nationalmuseum (Helena from Navet was part of the team doing the restoration). Have lunch at the classic KB and move on to Vasastan to visit the ever inspiring Carl Eldhs Ateljé for inspiration. Have some afternoon wine at Babette and an early dinner at Bistro Mirabellein Vasastan. Then go see a theater at the new scene Konträr (designed by us) back on the south side.
Beside design, what is your greatest passion?
We are all lovers of nature and hiking. We also never say no to a well cooked meal or a good wine.
You are a team of four women. What is it like to work with so many good ideas?
Having the possibility of working with your close friends is such a gift that we are very happy about. We all contribute to each other's ideas to take them further and over the years we developed an internal process where we set strict limitations early in the project - limitations that are then challenged throughout the process. It works very well for us.
Why did you choose to work with Vero?
We feel very connected with what Vero stands for. Truth in terms of simplicity, great materials, and being close to both the end customer and the production. We always work in close collaboration with the artisans and we have a strong connection with Italian manufacturing already before working with Vero. We like the approach of combining an international mindset with a strong local grounding and we love working with skilled manufacturers.
